Neermahal: – Palace of Hindu and Mughal Architectural Design

It is literally known as “Water Palace of Tripura’. The Neermahal Palace is located a distance of about 55 km from south of Agartala. The palace of Neermahal is surrounded by lake which is name is Rudrasagar lake. It was built in 1930 by the Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya as a summer residence. The construction of the Neermahal is under taken by Martin and Burn Company. The palace is located in the middle of the Rudrasagar Lake which is covering an area of 5.3sq km. The lake view is excellent, and one can go to the Neermahal Palace for hiring of a rented boat to cross the lake and to visit the fairy tale palace with its domes and pavilions. The palace of good combination of between Hindu and Mughal architectural design. There are two part of the palace – one on the western side known as Andar Mahal which has been used by the royal family and another one is eastern side which was used for the security personnel’s and servants. There are 15 rooms in the Andhar Mahal. There is a beautiful garden laid in the western side of the palace. In the garden, there is a open stage where drama, theater etc are used to be organized for enjoyment of the Maharaja (King).It was said that Maharaja are used to go by motor boat to the palace from rajghat, and there is a one motor boat ghat inside the palace where motor boat could go and there are two stair at the motor boat ghat- one for Maharaja another one is Maharani (princes). For the attractions of the tourists the flood lighting has been arranged in the evening. In addition, the light and sound on the historical past and cultural heritage of Tripura both Bengali and English language has been organized in the palace.
I t is here to be mentioned that, during the winter large number of the migratory birds are seen in the Rudrasagar lake.

How to reach in Neermahal:- By road:- From Nagerjola Bus stand at Agartala, one can go to through private buses/ small car for Melaghar, then one takes rickshaw to go boat ghat where the Rudrasagar Co-operative Society will operated the boats. It will take 10 minutes to go boatghat by rickshaw from Melaghar bus station. From boatghat to Neermahal palace, takes 10-15 minutes and its distance about 1.5 km, hiring of private luxury car are available from Agartala to Neermahal.

Neermahal Festivals: – Neermahal Festival has been organized by I.C.A.T. Department in collaboration with local administration in the month of December in every year. The festivals will takes place in three days. In the auspicious festivals, varies cultural programs has been organized, such as Bengali Dhamail, Lusai Cheraw dance, Hozagiri dance of Reang etc. Local cultural teams are also participated in the festival. Cultural teams from Bangladesh are also participated in colorful cultural programs.

Swimming and Boat Race:-The swimming and boating competition has been organized by I.C.A.T Department in collaboration with Rudrasagar Co-operative Societies and local administration. In this programs, the local and traditional cultural functions has been organized for attracting the tourists. The visiting tourists in the Neermahal are enjoying the boating facility. The swimming and boating competition is organized in the month of July/August in every year. It is here to be mentioned that, the “Monasa Mangal” Competition is also organized before of the swimming and boating competition. In these competitions, the Minister of I.C.A.T and poets and other dignitaries from state and from outside state would participated in the competition.
